“These individuals were those who did not speak or understand English and may have believed that they all were taking necessary and legitimate steps,” said George Ioannidis from Homeland Security Investigations.

DMV examiners involved allegedly rubber-stamped approvals without any actual road tests.

District Attorney Michael McMahon believes this is only the beginning, saying, “We think that we are going to find hundreds if not thousands of people that have been part of this scam.”

This is more than just a corruption case—it’s a public safety nightmare.

Allowing untrained, possibly dangerous drivers to legally operate vehicles in one of the busiest cities in America is reckless and unacceptable.

The people who paid off these examiners knew they were breaking the law. But even worse are the officials who betrayed their oaths and put innocent lives at risk just to pocket some extra cash.

Every one of them deserves to spend a very long time behind bars.

Let’s not sugarcoat this: the immigrants who got these licenses may have been exploited, but they were also willing participants.

Driving on public roads without knowing how to do so safely is a crime against every other person behind the wheel or walking across the street.
