The recent attack on former President Trump at a Pennsylvania rally has revealed a chilling level of planning by the young suspect.
FBI officials have uncovered details that paint a picture of a carefully orchestrated attempt.
“We believe the subject made significant efforts to conceal his activities,” FBI officials said in a conference call.
The 20-year-old suspect, Thomas Matthew Crooks, didn’t just show up on a whim. He visited the rally site a week early and even practiced shooting the day before.
The gun used in the attack came from Crooks’ father, who legally transferred it to him.
But Crooks’ preparations started long before the rally.
Over a year ago, he bought 25 guns online using fake names.

He also gathered materials to make explosives earlier this year.
His parents, noticing packages piling up at home, brushed it off as part of their son’s interest in science.
Kevin Rojek from the FBI’s Pittsburgh office said they’re still digging into why Crooks did this.
They’ve talked to hundreds of people and looked at thousands of tips, but the motive remains unclear.

The FBI described Crooks as “highly intelligent, attended college and maintained steady employment,” but also as a loner. This profile challenges common stereotypes about individuals who commit such acts.
