Helicopter Carrying Iranian President Raisi, The ‘Butcher of Tehran,’ Crashes in Remote Region

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s helicopter apparently suffered a “hard landing” on Sunday while flying over the East Azerbaijan province near the city of Jolfa, according to Iranian state media reports and the Associated Peess.

The incident occurred as Raisi, accompanied by Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and other high-ranking officials, was returning from inaugurating a dam alongside Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, with one local government official even referring to it as a “crash” before acknowledging that he had yet to reach the site himself.

Rescuers are currently attempting to reach the location, but their efforts have been hampered by difficult weather conditions, including heavy rain, fog, and wind.

President Raisi, a hard-liner who previously led Iran’s judiciary, is widely regarded as a protégé of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Some analysts have even suggested that Raisi could potentially succeed the 85-year-old leader following his death or resignation.

However, Raisi’s rise to power has been marred by controversy, including his involvement in the mass execution of thousands of political prisoners in 1988 at the conclusion of the Iran-Iraq war, for which he is currently sanctioned by the United States.

Under Raisi’s leadership, Iran has taken an increasingly aggressive stance on the global stage, enriching uranium at nearly weapons-grade levels while simultaneously hampering international inspections.

The nation has also provided military support to Russia in its ongoing war against Ukraine and launched a massive drone-and-missile attack on Israel amidst its conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Additionally, Iran continues to arm proxy groups throughout the Middle East, such as Yemen’s Houthi rebels and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

While we never wish harm upon anyone, it is difficult to ignore the fact that Raisi’s actions and policies have been directly responsible for the deaths of countless individuals and the world would be a better place without him in it.
