Commentary:
This attack should never have happened.
Five of the six inmates involved were not even supposed to be on U.S. soil.
Their presence in our prison system—and their ability to assault correctional officers—is a direct result of open-border policies championed by the Biden administration and congressional Democrats.
These violent criminals crossed into our country illegally and committed heinous crimes, yet instead of being deported or denied entry, they’ve been allowed to endanger American lives inside our own prison walls.
It’s an outrageous failure of both immigration and criminal justice policy.
The Trump administration understood the threat MS-13 poses and took serious steps to eliminate it—through arrests, deportations, and tougher enforcement.
That strategy needs to return with full force.
These gang members should be immediately shipped back to El Salvador, where the CECOT mega-prison is built specifically for criminals like them.
American taxpayers should not be responsible for housing and protecting violent foreign nationals.
Nor should our correctional officers be put at daily risk by failed immigration enforcement.
The system is broken, and every day we fail to fix it, more Americans suffer.
Prosecuting those responsible for this assault is only half the answer.
They need to be deported.
The Bottom Line:
A violent gang assault on Virginia prison staff by illegal immigrant inmates raises urgent concerns about the consequences of weak border enforcement.
These inmates were already convicted of horrific crimes and should never have been allowed in the country.
Stronger immigration and deportation measures are long overdue to protect American lives.
