A federal judge in Texas has blocked a sweeping new immigration law that would have allowed the State of Texas to arrest suspected illegal immigrants.

Texas police will not have the power to arrest suspected illegal immigrants after a federal judge stopped a new law from going into effect in an order Thursday, the same day that President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are set to visit the southern border.
U.S. District Judge David Ezra temporarily stopped a law from going into effect on March 5, stating that the legislation would allow Texas to “permanently supersede federal directives,” which would “amount to nullification of federal law and authority — a notion that is antithetical to the Constitution and has been unequivocally rejected by federal courts since the Civil War,” The Associated Press reported.
The legislation would allow state law enforcement officers to arrest people suspected of illegally entering the United States.
While I understand the judge’s reasoning and from a purely legal standpoint this makes sense but it neglects the fact that the federal government, under Biden, is ignoring the law and allowing millions of illegals into this country.
If the federal government refuses to enforce the law the states must step up and take charge.

Gov. Greg Abbott, who has moved aggressively over the past three years to create a state-level system of border enforcement, said he would immediately appeal the decision.
“We will not back down in our fight to protect our state — and our nation — from President Biden’s border crisis,” Mr. Abbott said in a statement.
The judge’s ruling was handed down shortly before Mr. Abbott was set to appear with former President Donald J. Trump in the border town of Eagle Pass, Texas, where the state’s enforcement efforts have been most aggressive. President Biden was also scheduled on Thursday to visit a section of the Texas border, in Brownsville.
The Biden White House is now referring to illegal immigrants as "newcomers."
