A bill aimed at preventing a partial government shutdown, supported by President-elect Donald Trump, failed to pass in the House of Representatives on Thursday night, bringing Congress closer to a shutdown.
Despite Trump’s backing, 38 Republicans voted against the bill.
The measure was defeated with a vote of 235 to 174, garnering only two Democratic “yes” votes against 197 Democratic “no” votes.
