The Rest of The Story:
Authorities in Minnesota are searching for a suspect who carried out two separate shootings targeting state lawmakers early Saturday morning.
The first attack occurred around 2 a.m. at the Champlin residence of Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, both of whom were shot multiple times and are now recovering after surgery.
At around 3:35 a.m., police responded to a welfare check at the home of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman in Brooklyn Park.
Officers encountered what appeared to be a police officer outside.
When they approached, the suspect opened fire and then fled after police returned fire.
Hortman and her husband Mark Ali were found dead.
The suspect had dressed in black body armor, carried a badge and a Taser, and drove a vehicle outfitted to look like a police SUV with flashing lights.
Investigators found a manifesto inside that vehicle, naming other public officials as possible targets.
“This was an act of targeted political violence,” Governor Tim Walz said. “We don’t settle our differences with violence or at gunpoint in the state of Minnesota.”

President Trump issued a statement saying, “I have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers.”
“Our Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and the FBI, are investigating the situation, and they will be prosecuting anyone involved to the fullest extent of the law. Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America. God Bless the great people of Minnesota, a truly great place!”

Attorney General Pam Bondi echoed the sentiment: “The FBI is on the ground investigating this case alongside state and local partners. This horrific violence will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson posted, “Such horrific political violence has no place in our society, and every leader must unequivocally condemn it. Our prayers are with the Hortman and Hoffman families as well as the people of Minnesota during this tragic time.”
Commentary:
This attack crosses a terrifying line.
Someone impersonated law enforcement to infiltrate the homes of elected officials and opened fire, killing two and injuring two more.
That’s not just murder—it’s a direct assault on civil society and democratic institutions.
Wearing a badge, donning body armor, and using a vehicle rigged to mimic police—it’s clear this wasn’t a moment of rage but a calculated, premeditated act.
The level of detail shows an intent to deceive, enter undetected, and destroy.
Such tactics are horrifying.
It’s a violation of trust in every sense.
Citizens depend on the idea that a knock at the door from a police officer is legitimate.
This suspect turned that trust into a weapon.

Law enforcement is doing everything possible—BCA, FBI, and local agencies are working together—but time is critical.
The longer this individual is free, the more lives are at risk.
His manifesto, listing more potential victims, raises the urgency even further.
This was not a random spree.
It was targeted political violence, driven by an ideology or motive that led someone to believe murder was justified.
That mindset is poisonous, and it must be stopped before it inspires others.
Public Safety Commissioner Bob Jacobson was right to say this “betrayal is deeply disturbing.”
It’s not just disturbing—it’s a wake-up call.
The enemy wasn’t foreign or anonymous; he was dressed in the uniform of those sworn to protect us.
The focus now must be on swift justice.
The suspect must be caught and prosecuted without leniency.
Anything less would endanger more lives.
The Bottom Line:
A deadly, politically driven attack has shaken Minnesota and the nation.
The use of a police disguise to carry out this violence reveals a level of malice and preparation that’s deeply alarming.
Authorities are racing against time to find the suspect and prevent further harm.
Lawmakers, citizens, and law enforcement must remain vigilant—because the threat is still out there.
