Mexico Caves, Gives in to Trump in Exchange For One Month Delay on Tariffs

After speaking with Donald Trump on Monday, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the United States would delay implementing tariffs on Mexico for one month, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

“We had a good conversation with Trump,” she wrote in a social media post.

According to Sheinbaum, there is renewed optimism that the U.S. might postpone the tariffs it had threatened. Rather than appearing at her scheduled press conference, she shared on X that she and her American counterpart had a productive discussion leading to the one-month pause.

In return, Sheinbaum explained that Mexico will reinforce its northern border with 10,000 National Guard troops. She also noted that her government and Trump’s administration would immediately begin collaborating on matters of trade and security.
