Douglas County Judge Christina Peterson was arrested early Thursday morning at Atlanta’s Red Martini Restaurant and Lounge.
This incident is just the latest in a series of troubling events that call into question Peterson’s fitness for the bench.
According to Fulton County Jail records, Peterson faces charges of simple battery against a police officer.
The arrest report paints a disturbing picture of the judge’s behavior.
An off-duty Atlanta police officer, working security at the nightclub, observed a distressed woman crying.
As the officer attempted to assist her, Peterson allegedly struck him on the head.
The circumstances surrounding this altercation remain murky.

It’s unclear whether Peterson knew the crying woman or what prompted her to allegedly assault a law enforcement officer.
Perhaps most alarming, the arrest report indicates that Peterson failed to identify herself as a judge and appeared to be under the influence.

This incident is not an isolated occurrence but rather the latest chapter in Peterson’s troubled tenure on the bench.
In April, the Judicial Qualifications Commission unanimously recommended her removal from office, citing “systemic incompetence” and finding her guilty on 30 counts of misconduct.
The commission’s report detailed a litany of offenses, including disregard for courthouse rules, mistreatment of personnel, and inappropriate social media activity.
One particularly egregious case involved Peterson jailing a woman for attempting to amend her marriage certificate.
The three-person panel investigating Peterson’s conduct described this action as a “hasty and shockingly disproportionate reaction” that exemplified the judge’s “intemperance.”
Other complaints against Peterson included allowing an after-hours wedding without proper security and misusing the courthouse panic button.
During the hearings, Peterson attempted to deflect criticism by claiming she hadn’t received sufficient recognition as “the first African American female judge who was a Democrat.” The panel, however, found this argument unpersuasive.
Atlanta MUST be stopped. Douglas County "City Girl" Judge Christina Peterson cries racism and not being celebrated when her lack of professionalism and incompetence is exposed. When will this foolishness end? #AtlantaGA #DouglasCounty #ChristianPeterson #cityGirls pic.twitter.com/cW3ENBjVZu

The commission’s report was unequivocal in its condemnation of Peterson’s behavior: “Judges are expected to act in a manner that promotes the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary. Respondent has shown that she cannot β or will not β do so. And so she must go.”
Despite the panel’s clear recommendation for removal, Peterson’s fate still hangs in the balance as the Georgia Supreme Court has yet to render a final decision.
The justice system relies on judges who embody the highest standards of conduct both in and out of the courtroom.
Peterson’s actions not only tarnish her own reputation but also erode public trust in the judiciary as a whole.
Her apparent disregard for the law she’s sworn to uphold is a slap in the face to the citizens she’s meant to serve.
As this troubling saga unfolds, it’s clear that immediate action is necessary.
The Georgia Supreme Court must act swiftly to remove Peterson from her position.
Her continued presence on the bench makes a mockery of justice and undermines the very foundations of our legal system.
The citizens of Douglas County deserve better. They deserve a judge who respects the law, treats all individuals with dignity, and upholds the integrity of the court.
Christina Peterson has demonstrated time and again that she is not that judge.
