On Sunday night, U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, a Democrat from Texas, shared with her constituents that she has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is currently undergoing treatment, according to a new report from Fox News.
The 74-year-old congresswoman, who has been representing Texas’ 18th congressional district for three decades, expressed her determination to fight the disease while continuing to serve her constituents to the best of her ability.
In a statement, Jackson Lee revealed, “My doctors have confirmed my diagnosis for pancreatic cancer.” She acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead, stating, “The road ahead will not be easy, but I stand in faith that God will strengthen me.”
Despite the diagnosis, Jackson Lee remains committed to her duties as a member of Congress.
She assured her constituents that her office will continue to provide the high-quality services they have come to expect, even if her presence in Congress may be occasionally limited due to her treatment.

This is not the first time Jackson Lee has faced a cancer diagnosis. In 2011, she battled breast cancer and emerged victorious, announcing the following year that she was cancer-free.
Before her election to Congress, Jackson Lee served as a judge and was elected to an at-large Houston City Council seat in 1989.

Last year, she ran an unsuccessful campaign for Houston mayor but remained committed to serving her constituents by seeking reelection to Congress.
In her statement, added, “My adult life has been defined by my faith in God, my love for humanity and my commitment to public service.”
As Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee embarks on her battle with pancreatic cancer, we extend our heartfelt wishes for her swift recovery even if we disagree with literally every policy position she has taken.
