Sen Adam Schiff Formally Under Federal Criminal Investigation For Mortgage Fraud

Senator Adam Schiff is under criminal investigation for allegedly falsifying mortgage documents to get better loan terms. The probe follows a federal referral claiming he lied about his primary residence status on multiple occasions.

Key Facts:

  • Sen. Adam Schiff is being investigated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland for alleged mortgage fraud.
  • The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) sent a criminal referral to the DOJ accusing Schiff of falsifying records from 2003 to 2019.
  • Schiff allegedly claimed two different properties—one in California and one in Maryland—as his “primary residence” to secure better mortgage rates.
  • A 2011 affidavit signed by Schiff named the Maryland property as his primary residence, despite serving as a California congressman.
  • The FHFA alleges possible violations including wire fraud, mail fraud, bank fraud, and false statements to financial institutions.

The Rest of The Story:

The investigation into Adam Schiff stems from a criminal referral made by the FHFA earlier this year.

The referral accuses Schiff of repeatedly misrepresenting his residence status to obtain favorable loan terms on multiple mortgages backed by Fannie Mae.

In one instance, Schiff signed a 2011 affidavit claiming a Maryland home was his primary residence.

That same home was refinanced multiple times from 2003 to 2013, each time reaffirming its status as his main residence.

At the time, Schiff was serving as a California congressman and simultaneously claimed a Burbank, California condo as his primary residence, receiving tax benefits on that basis.

The FHFA Director, William Pulte, warned that Schiff’s alleged actions could jeopardize the integrity of federally regulated housing entities.

“Such misconduct jeopardizes the safety and soundness of FHFA’s regulated entities and the security and stability of the U.S. mortgage market,” Pulte wrote.

Fannie Mae’s financial crimes team found what it described as a “sustained pattern of possible occupancy misrepresentation” involving five separate loans.

Schiff didn’t list the Maryland home as a secondary residence until 2020, well after benefitting from primary residence loan perks for over a decade.

When questioned in 2023, a Schiff spokesperson told CNN that both the California and Maryland homes had been listed as primary residences “because they are both occupied throughout the year.”

Commentary:

This is what moral bankruptcy looks like. For years, Adam Schiff has stood before the cameras and behind closed doors, presenting himself as a champion of justice.

Now, he’s the subject of a federal criminal probe. The same man who cried foul over Donald Trump and pushed two sham impeachments now stands accused of long-term mortgage fraud.

Schiff allegedly lied, repeatedly, to banks and government institutions to secure financial benefits he wasn’t entitled to.

These aren’t clerical errors. They are deliberate deceptions that would land an ordinary citizen in prison.

When Schiff claimed his Maryland house as his primary residence to lock in better loan terms—while also collecting tax breaks on his California condo—it was more than hypocrisy. It was fraud. He knew exactly what he was doing. And now, there’s paper trail after paper trail backing it up.

This is the same man who once proclaimed, “no one is above the law” when targeting President Trump. Well, Adam Schiff is not above the law either.

If he did what’s alleged, then he should face real consequences. No Senate seat, no press conference, and no political spin should shield him from justice.

It’s laughable that Schiff or his allies might try to frame this as political retribution.

The facts are damning. Falsified documents. Dual claims of primary residency. Tax breaks and favorable loan terms.

This is not partisan theater—this is potential criminal conduct over 16 years.

And while Schiff has skated past accountability for his abuse of the intelligence committee and his role in pushing the Russia hoax and January 6 narrative, this time may be different.

This time, there are affidavits, audits, and federal investigators involved. He’s been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

The question now is whether the justice system will treat him like any other American caught committing mortgage fraud.

Anything less would prove his critics right—that D.C. is a place where elites make their own rules.

The Bottom Line:

Adam Schiff is now the focus of a federal criminal investigation that could expose years of financial deception.

From falsified loan documents to questionable tax filings, the allegations are serious and well-documented.

Schiff may cry political foul, but the evidence speaks for itself.

Justice should be blind, even to sitting senators.
