Home Depot Under Fire: Partnered with HRC on Grade School Curriculum Teaching on Pansexuals

Home Depot, the well-known home improvement retailer, has found itself in the spotlight due to its partnership with an LGBTQ program that provided educational materials on gender identity and sexual orientation to elementary school students.

In June 2022, Home Depot announced an expanded partnership with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation. The company described this as part of its efforts to “advance meaningful change” and support initiatives aligned with its commitment to education within diverse communities.

One of the programs supported through this partnership was HRC’s “Welcoming Schools.” This program offers K-12 lesson plans and resources focused on LGBTQ topics. The HRC Foundation describes Welcoming Schools as “the most comprehensive bias-based bullying prevention program in the nation.”

Some of the lesson plans and resources provided by Welcoming Schools delved into complex topics for young students. For instance, one lesson plan for kindergarten to second-grade students used a book called “Red: A Crayon’s Story” to explore concepts of identity. The lesson aimed to help students share their identities and understand gender identity.

“It is important to teach young children that we cannot assume someone’s gender identity based upon their gender expression,” the lesson plan stated.

Another resource, titled “Defining LGBTQ Words for Elementary School Students,” offered guidance on discussing terms like pansexual, queer, intersex, and non-binary with young children.

Kelie Charles, Home Depot’s senior director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, explained the company’s stance at the time: “We are dedicated to intensifying our efforts to make a meaningful, sustainable difference in supporting change in our communities.”

However, the partnership between Home Depot and HRC ended in 2023. When asked for comment, a Home Depot spokesperson told Fox News Digital: “The Home Depot stopped working with HRC last year, so we’re not the appropriate contact to comment on their programs.” The spokesperson added that in the past, the company had funded “two conferences that trained educators on how to prevent bullying using the Human Rights Campaign’s Welcoming Schools program.”

While Home Depot claims it has stopped working with HRC, their DEI policies are under scrutiny by watchdog Robby Starbuck who was instrumental in Lowe’s and Ford Motor Company’s abandonment of their own DEI policies.

Starbuck took to social media’s X stating: “Home Depot’s woke policies are not only tied to the HRC’s woke ideology, they’re also knee deep in DEI. @HomeDepot’s leadership should be aware that I have these and a whole lot more so they can’t deny their DEI push.”

He went on to put Home Depot on notice, stating: “We have more pressing matters right now but I hope to see dramatic changes before we have time to put all the puzzle pieces together from our investigation into a long video exposing the woke direction they’ve gone.”

Starbuck went on to allege that Home Depot many not be completely upfront about their current relationship with HRC.

Time will tell whether Home Depot will abandon their DEI policies like so many others or hold tight to their woke social agenda.
