‘Missing’ Posters Pop Up in Chicago for Dem Senator Who Chose Not to Attend DNC for Disputed Reasons

In a clever political move, the Ohio Republican Party is turning heads at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago this week.

Their weapon of choice? Missing person posters featuring Senator Sherrod Brown, one of three Democratic senators skipping the event.

“With all of his friends in Chicago this weekend, we were worried that he hadn’t made it to the United Center,” the Ohio GOP posted on social media.

They’ve plastered about 50 posters around the convention venue, catching the eye of attendees and sparking online chatter.

The posters take aim at Brown’s record, claiming he was last seen “cutting your retirement benefits” and “destroying Ohio manufacturing jobs.” They also poke fun at his absence, suggesting he’s “hiding from Kamala Harris’ radical record.”

This creative campaign tactic highlights a potential weak spot for Brown. While he told CNN, “I often skip conventions,” media reports suggest he hasn’t missed a DNC since joining Congress in 1994. This discrepancy gives his opponents ammunition to question his motives.

Brown’s GOP challenger, Bernie Moreno, isn’t letting the senator’s absence go unnoticed. Moreno’s spokesperson, Reagan McCarthy, pointed out, “Sherrod Brown votes with the Biden-Harris administration nearly 100% of the time. Even while he skips the convention, he can’t hide from the most radical presidential ticket in history.”

The National Republican Senatorial Committee echoed this sentiment. Their spokesperson, Philip Letsou, stated, “Brown is a career politician who has spent 50 years in politics pushing the Democrat agenda, he’s not fooling anyone.”

But Brown’s camp isn’t taking these jabs lying down. They argue the senator is busy connecting with Ohio voters. A campaign spokesperson told Fox News Digital, “Sherrod is meeting with Ohioans across the state this week to discuss his record fighting for Ohio and Bernie Moreno’s record looking out for himself.”

Indeed, while his Democratic colleagues rub elbows in Chicago, Brown has been holding campaign events in Cleveland and Niles, Ohio. He’s meeting with haircare professionals and labor union members, presumably hoping these grassroots connections will resonate more with voters than a high-profile convention appearance.

This strategic choice to skip the DNC might be a calculated risk. By distancing himself from the national party, Brown could be trying to appeal to moderate voters in Ohio, a key swing state.

The Ohio GOP, however, isn’t buying it. Their statement to Fox News Digital drips with sarcasm: “We’re sure Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, and Joe Biden are very concerned that he isn’t there to celebrate their accomplishments together.”

As the convention continues, one thing is clear: Sherrod Brown’s absence has become a talking point, thanks to the Ohio GOP’s creative campaign. Whether this tactic will influence voters remains to be seen, but it’s certainly grabbed attention in the political arena.
