Vast Majority of Americans Fear Country is ‘Spiraling Out of Control’

Recent events have stirred up concerns about America’s political climate, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.

The survey, conducted after an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, reveals widespread worry about the country’s direction.

Key findings:

– 80% of voters agree the country is “spiraling out of control”
– 84% fear extremist violence after the November 5 election
– Trump leads Biden 43% to 41% among registered voters

The poll, which included 992 registered voters, shows anxiety crossing party lines.

Both Democrats and Republicans express alarm about potential post-election unrest.

Trump’s narrow escape from an assassin’s bullet at a Pennsylvania rally has dominated headlines.

The incident left one attendee dead and two others seriously hurt. Despite the attack, Trump’s poll numbers haven’t changed significantly.

“The attempt on Trump’s life has dominated media headlines,” Reuters reports.

It’s also fueled religious interpretations among some supporters. 65% of registered Republicans view Trump’s survival as a sign of divine favor.

While fears run high, most Americans reject political violence.

Only 5% say it’s acceptable to use violence for political goals, down from 12% last year.

However, personal safety concerns are rising. 67% worry about violence against their community due to political beliefs, up from 60% in 2023.

As Election Day nears, these results suggest a nation on edge.

Voters remain split on candidates but united in their unease about potential unrest.
