Washington Post Editorial Board Acknowledges Biden’s ‘Inner Circle Worked to Conceal His Decline’

The Washington Post’s recent editorial on President Biden’s decision to step down from his re-election bid has sparked a renewed debate about media coverage of political figures’ mental acuity.

The piece, which largely praised Biden’s choice end his run, also contained a surprising admission: “The 81-year-old had shown signs of slipping for a long time, but his inner circle worked to conceal his decline.”

This revelation raises questions about the Post’s own coverage of Biden’s fitness for office. Like many mainstream media outlets, the Post had previously downplayed concerns about the president’s mental state. Now, their editorial board seems to be acknowledging what critics have long suspected.

The Post’s stance echoes a broader shift in media narrative following Biden’s poor debate performance against former President Trump.

Before the debate, many journalists dismissed worries about Biden’s age and mental sharpness. Aaron Blake, a senior reporter at the Post, had written that such concerns were causing “teeth-gnashing” among Democrats.

However, the debate marked a turning point. As the Post notes, “He and the country would have been better off if Mr. Biden had kept his implied promise from the 2020 campaign to be a ‘transitional’ figure, perhaps by bowing out after the Democrats’ surprisingly good showing in the 2022 midterm elections.”

This shift in tone wasn’t limited to the Post. Other media outlets and prominent Democrats quickly changed their tune after the debate, with many calling for Biden to step aside. It’s worth noting that these were often the same voices that had previously brushed off concerns about Biden’s fitness for office.

The Post’s editorial also references a Wall Street Journal report that had earlier raised alarms about Biden’s mental state.

At the time, this report was largely dismissed by mainstream media. The White House even pressured Democrats to push back against the WSJ’s reporting.

Jennifer Rubin, a left-leaning columnist for the Post, had called the WSJ article “shoddy” and insisted Biden was fit to lead. Just six weeks later, Biden ended his re-election bid.

This rapid reversal in media coverage and political support raises questions about the role of the press in vetting candidates and reporting on sensitive issues like a leader’s mental fitness.

This isn’t the only time the Post has been caught in bias reporting. Recently the Post was accused of paying to promote stories that were likened to political ads with a definite left-leaning bias.

The Post’s admission serves as a reminder mainstream media definitely leans democrat and will go to great lengths to promote their ideals.
