Criminal Investigation Opened in the Death of Matthew Perry

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have launched a joint criminal investigation into the untimely passing of Friends star Matthew Perry.

The actor, known for his portrayal of the quick-witted Chandler Bing on the iconic sitcom, died on October 28, 2023, due to the acute effects of the anesthetic ketamine, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

While Perry’s death was initially deemed an accident with no signs of foul play, the autopsy report revealed a puzzling discrepancy.

According to the report, “the ketamine in his system at death could not be from that infusion therapy since ketamine’s half-life is three to four hours or less.”

This finding has prompted authorities to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding Perry’s possession and use of the drug.

Ketamine infusion therapy, a treatment used to address various mental health and chronic pain issues, was part of Perry’s ongoing journey to overcome his struggles with addiction, depression, and anxiety.

The actor had been candid about his battles with substance abuse and was a vocal advocate for others facing similar challenges.

The news of Perry’s death sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with an outpouring of tributes from fans, colleagues, and friends alike.

His Friends co-stars, in particular, shared heartfelt memories and expressed their profound grief. Matt LeBlanc, who played Perry’s on-screen best friend Joey Tribbiani, was among the first to speak out, saying, “the times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life.”
